A Brief Introduction to the Department of General Foreign Languages
The Department of General Foreign Languages was set up in 2004 and undertakes the work of teaching all the non-English majors of the College. There are 23 full-time teachers including 2 professors, 8 vice professors; 1 foreign teacher, 11 lecturers and 2 assistant teachers, of them, 14 teachers having achieved a Master's degree status.
Since its establishment, the main task of the College English Department has focused on improving teaching quality and enhancing disciplinary construction in order to seek out a way for a successful development of an independent college in China. In the course of teaching and research practice, the College English Department has adhered to creating new ideas in teaching, has designed teaching standards suitable for the actual situation in an independent college. In the meantime, the College English Department has opened new language courses, such as “Bilingual Broadcast”, “English for Kindergarten Teachers”, to meet the current employment requirements and demands for college graduates. In the course of the teaching reform, the College English Department has formed a systematic test bank and has managed students' grade files.
All the teachers have been actively involved in various research activities and they successfully applied for three projects at the provincial level of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” and the compilation of one course-book at the national level. In the past five years, the teachers completed the translation of 6 movies and 4 works and nearly 30 articles and published more than 30 works and thesis papers
